About This Site

This site is a compact reference on heart and stroke vocabulary and measurement — what the terms mean, what the numbers on a report represent, and how measurement units differ between the United States and the rest of the world. The domain historically carried heart-and-stroke charity information, and the current site keeps to that subject in a narrower, reference-style form.

It is written for a general United States audience: patients' family members trying to follow a conversation, people comparing a US lab report against Canadian or European materials, students, and anyone who wants the terminology straight before an appointment.

Two honest limits. First, every page here is reviewed reference material — explanations of words, units, and documents — and none of it is professional advice. This site does not tell you what a reading means for your health, what to do about a symptom, or how to respond in an emergency; those questions belong to licensed clinicians and, for emergencies, to 911. Second, the site deliberately cites a small set of established public sources — the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, MedlinePlus, the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, the World Health Organization, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada — and points readers to them for anything beyond definitions.
